About the project
Fieldwork in this project took place during the Covid-19 pandemic period. We prepared a remote methodology and conducted in-depth interviews with parents, key informants and children in Arabic, Kurdish and Turkish through telephone and video interviews. Field coordination involved conducting interviews, coding and analysis at the same time. After the analysis, separate reports were written for both phases.

TANDANS DSC carried out data collection and analysis activities of the project. Qualitative data was collected for both Syrian and Turkish children in the situation of being at risk or being out of school. Fieldwork was conducted remotely due to the pandemic.
We have prepared the methodology of remote qualitative research, using Zoom and telephone in accordance with the conditions of the day. The sample included children, parents, school administration, and MoNE local and national stakeholders.
In order to collect data remotely, a 3-day training was first conducted. Taking into account the evaluations after the training, the field work started with the assignment of a code to each interview. The fieldwork was carried out by carefully collecting consent forms at the same time as the transcript of each interview with its code. With 16 data collectors and 4 supervisors, 10 FGDs and 178 interviews were conducted with Syrians in Arabic for Phase 1, and 12 FGDs and 208 in-depth interviews were conducted for Phase 2. Coding and analysis were done through MaxQDa.
Separate field reports for phase 1 and phase 2 were written and presented.
We learned how important to redesign the data collection activities to eliminate the pandemic risks.
